Nina Kazimova
Born on December 5, 1952, in Leningrad. Graphic artist, etcher, and publisher of limited-edition artist’s books. Widely known as the Queen of Aquatint. Works primarily in the genres of ex-libris, artist’s books, easel graphics, and small-format prints. She has created over 430 etchings, including more than 200 ex-libris.
Kazimova received her early art education at the Zhdanov Palace of Pioneers and the Children’s Art School No. 1 in Leningrad (1963–1970). In 1976, she graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute. Until the early 1990s, she worked as an architect and designer. In 1985, she began studying etching techniques in the studio of German Pakharevsky. In 1989, she joined the Soviet Lubok Folk Graphics Workshop in Moscow. Since 1991, she has been a member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists. Since 1993, she has worked as a freelance artist.
From the 1990s onward, Kazimova has actively participated in international exhibitions, competitions, and biennials. She has received numerous awards and distinctions in Bulgaria, Poland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, France, and Russia. She has been a finalist in prestigious ex-libris competitions dedicated to François Rabelais, Paul Verlaine, the 20th century, and more. Her name appears in several international encyclopedias and monographs, including The Best of the Best in European Ex-Libris (Belgium, 1997) and Contemporary Ex-Libris Artists (Portugal, 2006).
Her works are held in the collections of major museums, including the State Hermitage Museum, the State Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, and palace-museums in Peterhof and Tsarskoye Selo, as well as in libraries and museums across France, Germany, Italy, Poland, China, Spain, Canada, and the USA. Her works are also part of numerous private collections around the world.
In 2008, she was inducted as a member of the Petrov Academy of Sciences and Arts.
